MFi-certified stand for “Made for iPhone” certified. Apple has developed a testing program that tests whether cables from other manufacturers work well with Apple products. Products that test well are safe for your Apple device and therefore receive MFI certification. Our Apple Watch chargers are for instance MFi-certified and contain an official MFi chip. This way you can be sure your device will be charged safely.
MFi was first introduced in 2005 as an abbreviation for “Made For iPod”. This certification was a way for Apple to make sure that chargers for iPods would work correctly and safely with their product line.
Since iPods were quickly superseded by iPhone sales, MFi gained an additional meaning: Made for iPhone. Nowadays it is also used as certification for accessoires and chargers for your Apple Watch, AirPods and iPad. An MFi-certified product carries a MFi authentication chip, making sure the product will work with your device.
