Qi2 is the latest evolution in wireless charging: offering faster speeds, magnetic alignment, and broader compatibility across devices and brands. It’s designed to improve upon standard Qi charging and integrates features inspired by Apple’s MagSafe. Curious how Qi2 compares to Qi, MagSafe, or the upcoming Qi2.2? Read more on this page to explore the differences, similarities, and what each technology means for your device.

What is Qi2?

Qi2 is the new global standard for wireless charging and an upgraded version of Qi. Qi2, like Apple’s MagSafe, works with magnets, allowing you to charge Qi2-compatible and MagSafe devices efficiently. As a result of the magnetic precision, your smartphone will find the wireless charging point more easily and will charge quickly up to 15W.

The Qi2 technology is universal and released by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC): an association (of which Zens is a member) that guarantees the safety, ease of use and efficiency of wireless charging.

Want to use magnetic Qi2 wireless chargers? iPhone 12 and newer have MagSafe built in. Using a new Android phone like the S25? Just add a magnetic case. If you have an older smartphone that supports Qi, choose a Qi wireless charger for seamless charging.

What's next? Qi2.2 is the upcoming upgrade

Qi2.2 is taking wireless charging to the next level with speeds up to 25W. That means even faster, more efficient charging for future Qi2.2-compatible smartphones and accessories.

Qi2.2 keeps the magnetic alignment of Qi2, but adds more power while staying universal and safe, backed by the Wireless Power Consortium. Perfect for devices that need a quick top-up, even when you're short on time.

The differences between Qi, Qi2, MagSafe and Qi2.2.

What started as a cable-free convenience is now a fast, smart, and seamless experience. It began with Qi: simple, universal, but slow and easy to misalign. Qi Magnetic improved the experience with magnets, mainly for iPhone users. Then Apple introduced MagSafe: faster, certified, and magnetic. Qi2 followed, combining MagSafe-like magnets with an open, universal standard for all brands. Now Qi2.2 is on the horizon, pushing wireless charging into high-speed territory up to 50W. Check the table below for more similarities and differences between the charging standards.

Which phones do support Qi2?

Qi2 supports all Qi2-compatible phones, including the iPhone 12 and newer. The first Qi2-ready Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25, launched in 2025, with more devices to follow. Additional Qi2-enabled products, such as earphones and smartwatches, are expected soon.

In addition, you can also use a Qi2 wireless charger with a phone with ”Qi” support and, for example, purchase a Qi2 phone case for magnetic (horizontal and vertical) charging. Do you have an iPhone (12 and up) with MagSafe? You can simply use Qi2 wireless chargers, which are often cheaper than wireless MagSafe chargers. Check here the full list of phones that support Qi, MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging.

Is Qi2 better than MagSafe?

Qi2 is the latest charging technology, which is comparable to Apple’s MagSafe in speed and operation with magnetic rings. Qi2 will be the standard charging technology of the future, as it is available for all brands (including Apple, Samsung, Google, etc.). This makes Qi2 more user-friendly than MagSafe.
