Charging your devices wirelessly is easy. Simply place your device(s) on the charger and charging will start automatically. It sets you free of messy wires, multiple chargers and overloaded sockets. However, choosing the right wireless charger can be tricky. There are several facts to consider before buying one.
5 things to consider before buying a wireless charger
1. Your ecosystem of wireless accessories
One of the things to consider is your current (and future) ecosystem of wireless accessories. There are endless options of single, dual, triple, quadruple, etc. wireless charging solutions. Decide for yourself which devices you frequently charge at a similar time or place. Wouldn’t it be very convenient to replace these multiple chargers with just one? Or you might be looking for a family-proof charging solution. The amount and type of devices you’d like to charge simultaneously is a good starting point.
2. Future-proof
If you plan on expanding your ecosystem of wireless accessories anytime soon (e.g. buy an Apple Watch or Apple Airpods), it might be good to take this in account too. In that case, you might decide to already go for a solution that includes this future device or it might lead you to look for a flexible solution that allows you to continuously adapt and change your charger according to your charging needs.

3. The purpose of the charger
Where you plan on using the charger is another important factor to consider. Apart from integrated wireless chargers, there are also many different wireless charging solutions for usage on-the-go, at the office, at home or while working from home. While a stand wireless charger (charging your phone in portrait position) might be ideal for your home office a docking station might be more appealing for at home.
4. Fast charging
Depending on the purpose of the charger, fast wireless charging may or may not be a necessary feature. Today, most wireless chargers support Apple Fast Charge & Samsung Fast Charge by default. However, if you are looking for a wireless charger which you’ll place on your bedside table, it’s not a must. Your devices will be placed on the charger for about 8 hours anyway, making charging speed less relevant. In public areas or spaces where you tend to spend little time, Fast Charge can be of added value.
For wireless charging, one of the most important certifications to consider is Qi certification
5. What about certification?
For wireless charging, one of the most important certifications to consider is Qi certification. Qi (pronounced ‘’chee’’) is the global standard for wireless charging. All devices carrying the Qi logo are compatible with all Qi chargers. Products using the Qi standard must be tested rigorously to help ensure safety, interoperability and energy efficiency. Only products that have passed these independent laboratory tests can use the Qi logo and are considered “Qi-certified”. Using non-Qi-certified chargers might be unsafe, because these wireless chargers may not meet the mandatory and necessary protection features. Zens closely follows the Qi specifications and certifies all wireless chargers accordingly, so there’s no need to worry about this.
