Need to quickly charge your iPhone before heading out? The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max can charge to 50% in around 15 minutes. With the iPhone Duo, this takes approximately 20 minutes.

To achieve these speeds, you need the right USB-C charger. How many watts do you need, what exactly does AVS do, and when should you choose 70W or 100W? Here’s what you need to know.

How fast does the new iPhone 18 series charge?

Not every USB-C charger can deliver the maximum fast charging speed. These are the key differences:

Model Charge up to 50% What do you need?
iPhone 18 Pro Approx. 15 minutes 60W+ USB-C power adapter with AVS
iPhone 18 Pro Max Approx. 15 minutes 60W+ USB-C power adapter with AVS
iPhone Duo Approx. 20 minutes 60W+ USB-C power adapter with AVS

For the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in particular, wattage alone isn't enough to reach the new maximum charging speed. The charger also needs to support AVS.

Why does Apple require 60W and AVS?

AVS stands for Adjustable Voltage Supply. It allows the charger to adjust the voltage more precisely to what your iPhone needs at that moment.

Think of it like a tap. A traditional charger has a few fixed settings, while a charger with AVS can adjust the flow much more precisely. Your iPhone tells the charger what it needs, and the charger adjusts the power delivery accordingly.

This has several benefits:

  • Precise power delivery: voltage is adjusted to the device.
  • Less heat: reduces unnecessary energy loss.
  • Sustained speed: helps maintain fast charging for longer.
  • Future-ready: supports the latest developments in USB-C Power Delivery.

You don't need to adjust anything yourself. Once you connect your iPhone, the phone and charger handle everything automatically.

Using a Samsung smartphone? The Zens 70W and 100W adapters also support PPS. PPS is a charging technology used by many Samsung devices for fast charging, making the same adapter suitable for devices such as a Samsung Galaxy as well.

Do you always need AVS to fast charge an iPhone?

No. This is an important distinction. Many earlier iPhones can already fast charge with a compatible USB Power Delivery adapter without AVS. AVS is therefore not a general requirement for iPhone fast charging. For example, iPhone 15 to iPhone 17 models can charge at up to around 40W wired, reaching approximately 50% battery in about 30 minutes.

For the new maximum wired charging speed of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, however, AVS does matter. Apple specifies a 60W+ USB-C power adapter with AVS to reach approximately 50% battery in 15 minutes.

From Apple's requirement to the Zens solution

Apple offers its own 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with a peak output of 60W for this type of fast charging. However, you don't necessarily need an Apple adapter.

The Zens Compact USB-C Power Adapters in 70W and 100W support AVS and provide the power required for the new fast charging capabilities of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

There are two options:

70W: a compact choice if you mainly want to fast charge your iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max or other USB-C devices.

100W: more power for devices such as your laptop, plus the option to charge two devices at the same time.

A 100W charger can deliver up to 100W, but it doesn't automatically send 100W to your iPhone. Your iPhone and charger communicate with each other and determine how much power is needed. This means you can safely use the 100W adapter for your iPhone too.

How many watts do you need?

Not everyone needs 100W. The right choice mainly depends on the devices you want to charge with the same adapter.

Adapter Suitable for
30W iPhone 16 and earlier, AirPods and smaller USB-C devices
45W iPhone 17 series, selected Samsung Galaxy models and tablets
70W iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, high-powered smartphones, tablets and many USB-C laptops
100W for demanding laptops, latest generations smartphones or charging two devices with plenty of power to share.

Want to take advantage of the new maximum fast charging speed of the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max? Choose a 70W or 100W charger with AVS. A 30W or 45W charger will still charge your iPhone, but it doesn't meet Apple's 60W+ requirement for reaching 50% in approximately 15 minutes.

What about wireless charging?

Prefer not to plug in a cable? The new iPhones can also be charged wirelessly via MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 25W, reaching around 50% in approximately 30 minutes. Wired charging is faster, but wireless charging offers extra convenience: simply place your iPhone on the charger and charging starts automatically.

If you prefer a clean, cable-free setup, options such as the Zens Duo Charger Pro 2 and Zens Fold Charger Pro 3 are ideal for convenient wireless charging at home, at your desk or while travelling.

Ready for faster charging?

Get the most out of your iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max or iPhone Duo with a powerful USB-C charger that fits your setup. Choose 70W if you mainly want to fast charge your iPhone, or 100W if you also want to charge a laptop or two devices at the same time.
